Roskam supports increasing sanctions on human rights abusers, strengthening nuclear deal
Washington, D.C. — Representative Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the following statement in support of additional sanctions on human rights abusers and taking steps to strengthen the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action:
“The clock has begun and Congress has four months to fix the flaws of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to permanently block Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons capability. Any legislative solution must not only place permanent restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program, but also guarantee real transparency and verification and prevent the regime from developing nuclear-capable ballistic missiles that can harm our troops or allies in the Middle East and Europe, or reach the U.S. homeland.
“As Iranians are protesting in the streets for their God-given rights. I welcome today’s announcement to impose additional sanctions on human rights abusers. We must continue to target any regime entity responsible for repressing its people, supporting terrorism or developing ballistic missiles. I will soon be introducing legislation to strengthen the Iran nuclear deal and ensure the world’s foremost state sponsor of terrorism does not become a nuclear weapons state.”
