Washington, D.C. — Representative Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the following statement in recognition of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, observed on January 27th:

“As tomorrow marks International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we are reminded of the 11 million victims, including 6 million Jews, whose lives were stolen for no reason other than sheer hatred and bigotry. Although Hitler’s evil Nazi regime is no longer, the bane of anti-Semitism remains today and must be fought head-on. Anti-Semites in today’s society continue to spew their vile hatred across mediums and continents, we’ve seen firebombing attacks against synagogues in Sweden and Tunisia; KKK marches in American cities; swastikas drawn on Jewish fraternities; Jewish students labeled ‘Zio-Nazis’ on American college campuses; and Jewish journalists harassed in cyberspace.

“As we mark this day and work to defeat both new and old forms of anti-Semitism, our responsibility is two-fold – to remember those who perished in the Holocaust and to educate future generations to vigorously challenge hatred, bigotry and anti-Semitism and ensure such a heinous atrocity will never again occur.”
