Washington, D.C. – In a speech on the House floor, Congressman Peter J. Roskam (IL-06) recognized 6th district resident Lieutenant Colonel Sean Morrow of the United States Army for taking command of the United Nations Security Battalion in the Joint Security Area of the Demilitarized Zone of the Korean Peninsula.
“This unit is the most forward-deployed on the peninsula, and is responsible for both preserving the Armistice and working to bring about a peaceful reunification of the Korean peninsula,” Rep. Roskam said in his speech. “Sean will be leading the battalion that stands on the frontline of freedom, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, standing face-to-face with the North Korean People’s Army in defense of democracy and protecting our way of life.”
“Sean is a true warrior-scholar,” Roskam continued. “A PhD candidate in international relations and security studies at the University of Chicago, Sean is not only committed to protecting the United States on the battlefield, but also to the rigorous study of the most pressing national security problems and their potential solutions. Sean has dedicated his life and career to keeping our nation safe.”
“Although I am not able to attend the changing of command ceremony, the residents of the 6th district of Illinois and I are there in spirit,” Rep. Roskam said. “I wish Sean, his wife Meghan, and their three children continued success, good health and prosperity. Sean, thank you for your service and commitment to our country.”
