WHEATON, IL – Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) spoke and presented certificates at a naturalization ceremony today for over 130 area-residents and new U.S. citizens. The new citizens all took their oath of allegiance which is the final step in becoming a U.S. citizen. The ceremony took place at the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College in Wheaton.
The naturalization ceremony included new citizens from nearly 40 countries. Hundreds of family and friends were in attendance. Prior to the ceremony this morning, @PeterRoskam has been soliciting feedback from his twitter followers on what #BeingAmericanMeans.
"These new citizens are a reminder that the American Dream is still thriving and we should not take our citizenship for granted," said Congressman Roskam. "These men and women have shown the dedication, patience, and commitment to obtain lawful permanent residence here, and we welcome them with open arms. It's a great privilege to congratulate and welcome these new citizens into our community. I hope they continue the strong immigrant tradition of contributing to and enriching our nation for the better."
