Roskam Applauds House Passage of 2015 National Defense Authorization Act

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman Peter Roskam (R-IL) released the following statement after House passage of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2015:

“Today, the House passed the 2015 National Defense Authorization Act to ensure our military’s readiness in an increasingly unstable world.  We ask so much of our men and women in uniform, so it is vital that we uphold our promise to them by providing our soldiers with the training and resources they need to fulfill their critical mission.  I commend Chairman McKeon and the entire Armed Services Committee for their tireless work to ensure our troops are taken care of even during these challenging fiscal times.

“Additionally, I’m pleased this legislation includes a number of my proposals to strengthen our commitment to our international partners. The first requires the President to regularly report to Congress on the steps our government is taking to ensure that Israel maintains an independent capability to defend itself against existential threats. We also significantly boost funding for critical U.S.-Israel missile defense cooperative programs, including Iron Dome, David’s Sling, Arrow and Arrow 3.  Finally, this bill seeks to hold the Administration accountable by requiring reports on Iran’s compliance with the interim nuclear agreement and the overall state of its nuclear program, a provision I coauthored with my colleague Rep. Jackie Walorski of Indiana.  There is no greater threat to the United States and the world than a nuclear-armed Iran, and yet to date, the Administration has refused to provide the public with any updates on whether or not Iran is taking meaningful steps to halt their nuclear weapons development.  The United States must have the capability to deter and confront worldwide threats and stand with our allies around the world who face these challenges so close to home.”
