Roskam Urges Madigan, Cullerton to End Budget Stalemate
Washington, D.C — Earlier today, POLITICO reported on a letter sent by U.S. Representative Peter J. Roskam to Illinois State House Speaker Michael J. Madigan and Senate President John J. Cullerton:
In a sternly written letter supporting his home state’s Republican governor, U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill., has for the first time entered the Illinois state budget fray. Roskam sent a letter today to Democratic leaders Mike Madigan and John Cullerton, calling on the two to strike a deal budget compromise with Gov. Bruce Rauner. The letter, provided first to Illinois Playbook, urges the leaders to call bills for votes that they know might have a chance of appealing to both sides of the aisle.
“None of the ideas that could win bipartisan support are being called for a vote,” Roskam wrote. “Rather than attempting another round of empty-promise spending bills, I strongly urge you to work across party lines to enact a bipartisan plan that responsibly funds higher education and social services.”
