House Democracy Partnership Celebrates Ten Year Anniversary
WASHINGTON—This week, House Democracy Partnership Co-Chairs Peter Roskam (IL-06) and David Price (NC-04) joined over 200 people at the Library of Congress to celebrate the Ten Year Anniversary of the House Democracy Partnership. In addition to representatives of 15 HDP country embassies, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer spoke about the importance of HDP in promoting democratic governance around the world. Master of Ceremonies Congresswoman Susan Davis (CA-53) introduced the speakers at the event, and she was joined by other HDP members Congressman Vern Buchanan (FL-16), Congressman Sam Farr (CA-20), Congresswoman Susan Brooks (IN-05), Congressman Jim McDermott (WA-07), Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01) as well as Congresswoman Nita Lowey (NY-17).
Chairman Roskam: “The House Democracy Partnership’s 10th anniversary celebration was a fitting tribute to its years of work in strengthening parliaments across the globe. Despite authoritarian voices becoming more and more shrill around the world, I am optimistic that HDP will play a pivotal role in strengthening democratic values with our partner countries.”
Co-Chair David Price: “I was thrilled to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the House Democracy Partnership with so many friends and colleagues. Our bipartisan work has strengthened democratic institutions across the world, advancing our nation’s values as well as its interests. I very much look forward to continuing HDP’s important work in the years to come.
International Republican Institute President Ambassador Mark Green: “It has been an honor for IRI to help support the House Democracy Partnership, a peer to peer network for parliaments and parliamentarians that is not only good diplomacy but good democracy.”
National Democratic Institute President Kenneth Wollack: “HDP contributes measurably to the long-term development of parliaments -- many that are struggling with scarce resources and limited experience, and often in the face of extraordinary political, economic, and security challenges. NDI has been proud to work alongside the HDP commission to help advance these institutions of representative democracy and congratulates all HDP members, past and present, on this milestone.
