Roskam
Flood Insurance Reform

Roskam Fights for Working Family's Hard-Earned Dollars
Floor of the United States House of Representatives

Congressman Peter J. Roskam's (R-IL) floor speech to protect the precious taxpayer dollars of Illinois 6th Congressional District constituents by opposing H.R. 3121, the Flood Insurance Reform and Modernization Act of 2007. This bill, approved on the House Floor, was meant to initially address needed reforms to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). However, the bill was unnecessarily and unwisely expanded by adding wind coverage to the indebted NFIP. Roskam stated it is unfair for Illinois taxpayers to essentially pay for wind coverage for those living in coastal areas -- especially when there is a large private insurance market for wind coverage.
